Simply put, Tactical Abyss is “that place” where so many people choose to - or are seemingly forced to - live. It’s the land of never ending details, closely held operational process “secrets,” vendors no one else is allowed to call for fear of confusion, and a well-expressed and often-inflated sense of personal contribution. You might hear things like “I’m SO busy! My to do list is SO LONG!” Or “I got 125 emails today!!” In any case, people who find themselves living in Tactical Abyss can have a tough time getting out. After all, it’s comfortable, seems important, and if I’m busy - well, that’s job security, right?
Wrong.
It’s pigeonholing - limiting your opportunity based on others’ perception of your ABILITY to contribute on a strategic level.
Tactical Abyss is at the core of problems being faced by MarCom - and many other departments and agencies today. It’s all about the business of being busy - versus being strategic.
Our book outlines some of the traps - and the solutions - to this problem. Enjoy our podcasts, our blog, and - of course - buy the book! And most of all - let us hear from you.
Buy the Book! Your Career (and your boss) will thank you for it!
